Main Character : Ahmad

Plot :

The Fault in our stars

imagesCAS8TOPT

Name : Lim Sui Ling

Class : K3B

No. Sekolah : 12124

Author : John Green

Main Character : Hazel Grace

Summary :

Hazel Grace is your average teenager. Except the fact that she has all sorts of cancer inside her body and her lungs aren’t working very well.

One day in the support group, a boy caught her eye. It was the irresistably charismatic Agustus Waters. Soon enough, they became  friends and talked about absolutely everything. Hazel shared her favourite book,  An Imperial Affliction with Agustus and  together they obsessed over the unsolved ending.

Agustus somehow got through to the author and when Hazel emailed him, he invited her to come to Amsterdam to discuss the ending of the book. Agustus used his wish ( a wish that dying kids get ) for a trip to Amsterdam. Hazel ,of course, was over the moon about the whole idea

Unfortunately, when they got to Amsterdam, Peter Van Houten was just a mean drunk and wouldn’t answer any of Hazel’s questions. Even though visiting Peter was a complete disappointment, they had so much fun and fell in love in Amsterdam.  Augustus then dropped a bomb: his cancer had returned. Not long after, Agustus died.

Hazel was shocked and filled with grief.   At his funeral, though, she gave a different eulogy than the one she had written him.

At the very end, she learnt from Lidewij that Augustus wrote her a eulogy that he sent to Van Houten. The book ends with her reading the eulogy, which states that he hopes that she’s happy with the choices she made.

Opinion :

Personally, I feel that this book will definitely be a good read. All the reviews were optimistic, and it is now a major motion picture. The fault in our stars is a ‘thing’ now online. It’s definitely a must-read. I did not shed a tear after reading it but many of my friends did. It is touching, powerful and uncomplicated. Quoting Markus Zusak, ” you laugh, you cry, then you come back for more.”

Author : Chris Wooding

Main Character : Seth, Kady

Plot :

” Tall Jake, Tall Jake, take me away”

Call on Tall Jake and he’ll take you away. First, a black feather. second, a twig. Third, a knot of cat fur. Fourth, a tear. Fifth, a small pice of hair. The sixth ingredient, Fire. Then, say “Tall Jake, take me away” 6 times.

Everyone’s heard the rumours. Call on Tall Jake and he’ll take you to malice, A world that exists inside a horrifying comic book, a place where most kids never leave. Everyone thinks it’s just a silly myth, but when their friend Luke disappears, it doesn’t seem so silly after all.

After some thought, Seth thought the only way to prove that Malice is real is to enter it himself. Before he performed the ritual, he emailed Kady and said his goodbyes. The next day when Kady opened her email, Seth was already gone. Then it struck her that Malice was really real. As she searched for evidences and clues about malice, she also found out that her mom,  a professional hypnotist, hypnotized her with fake memories of being in San Francisco. Her most happy times in her life, were all fake. She had been to Malice, and mysteriously, she had found her way back. But she doesn’t remember a thing about it.

The only thing Kady knew, was that she had to get into Malice.  After that, she found out that the only way to get back to reality was by a ticket. A train ticket to be precise. They also discovered something known as ‘havoc’,  a team which plots against Tall Jake.

The thrilling adventure continues in the sequel, ‘Havoc’

Opinion :

Actually this is a part novel part ground-breaking comic. What makes this book so interesting and extraordinary is the story and the pictures from the comic  blend so well andyou could taste the horror and thrilling adventure. I read this book a long time ago but  I’m still ‘promoting’ it because it is one of my all-time favourite books and you should definitely read it.

The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner

imagesCATFOG0N

Name : Lim Sui Ling

Class : K3B

No. Sekolah : 12124

Author : Stephenie Meyer

Main Character : Bree Tanner

Plot :

The story tells of Bree Tanner’s short life as a newborn vampire and her experiences as a member of the Seattle newborn army to fight the Cullen family.

During a regular night hunt, she is out hunting in Seattle with three other newborns when she meets and befriends Diego, a high-ranked newborn; they gradually fall in love with each other. Together, they discover that they are able to go out in the sunlight without being fried, and that wooden stakes don’t kill them, contrary to what Riley Biers has told them about sunlight being deadly to vampires. Both Bree and Diego grow uneasy as they are unsure whether Riley is deliberately lying to them or simply ill informed; in the end, they find out he is lying.

Bree and Diego doubt Riley’s intentions and start to wonder the purpose of their survival. finally, Diego confronts Riley about their ability to survive in the sunlight. However, he does not return after that.  Bree is frightened and worried. however, she has to get ready to fight the Cullens.  Riley has claimed that for four days a year, it is safe for vampires to walk in sunlight.  Riley tell Bree that Diego has gone on a mission with Victoria ( the leader of the pack) and they will be reunited shortly. Unbeknowst to her, Diego has actually been tortured to death by Victoria and Riley.

The day of the battle, Fred, also known as ‘Freaky Fred’, a member with the power to create a repulsing shield around himself, tries to convince Bree to escape with him. He, also suspects that Riley wants them to fight to death in the fight, so he goes off to Vancouver. Bree, on the hand,  still believes that Diego will return, stays back. Bree tells Fred that she will meet him in Vancouver if she manages to find Diego.

Upon reaching the battlefield, she discovers that the newborn army has been decimated by the combined efforts of the Cullen family and  that they have been abandoned by Riley and Victoria. She also realizes that Diego is dead when she finds no trace of him.   She then surrenders to the Cullen Family.

The rest of the coven arrive along with Bella Swan, just as the Volturi turns up. Bree struggles to resist Bella’s scent.  Jane tortures Bree for information about her creation and the newborn army. The Cullen Family offers to take her in but Jane refuses.  Jane orders Felix to kill her. Bree’s sorrow is that she could never reveal to Fred the lies Riley had told them all. She thinks  Edward would  be nice to Fred if he happensto come over there. (She found out that Edward could mindread) Felix executes her by tearing her into shreds and burning her. That was the end of the short second life of Bree Tanner.

opinion :

There’s only one word to describe this book. hypnotic. Bree is just another supporting character in the famous twilight series. However, the way Stephenie Meyer wrote about her in this story just makes you want to get to know her even more. I think that Bree wants to be good but nobody gives her a chance.  She doesn’t know the rules, and gets punished anyway. She’s really innocent and I think she should be given a chance by the Volturi.  If you like vampire fiction, this is definitely your type of book.

Title : 52 Reasons to Hate my Father

Author : Jessica Brody

Main Character : Lexington Larrabee

Plot :

Lexington Larrabee has never had to work a day in her life and has her world at her fingertips.  After all, she’s the heiress to the multi-billion-dollar Larrabee Media empire. And heiresses are not supposed to work. They’re just spoiled brats who crash their brand-new Mercedes convertibles into convenience stores on Sunset Boulevard.

Which is why, on Lexi’s eighteenth birthday, her ever-absent, tycoon father decides to take a more proactive approach to her wayward life. Her life is turned upside down ever since. Every week for the next year, she will have to take on a different low-wage job if she ever wants to receive her beloved trust fund of twenty-five million bucks. But if there’s anything worse than working as a maid, a dishwasher, and a fast-food restaurant employee, it’s dealing with Luke, the arrogant, albeit an attractive, college intern her father has assigned to keep tabs on her.

Although Lexi tries to escape her 52 low-wage jobs, her father has already had her ‘escape plans’ all figured out. In the end, Lexi realizes that although she might have 52 reasons to hate her father, she only has one reason to love him. This story teaches us about the importance of  family, forgiveness, good intentions, and best of all, second chances. Lexi learns that love can be unconditional, and money can be immaterial.

opinion :

Actually it was the title that caught my eye. I judged the book by its cover. However, I have made the right choice. This book has suprising charm and it is sure to be enjoyed by teens.  It gives you a glance about rich people’s lives and is really fun and interesting. A little bit of romance can make the book a lot more interesting.

The Girl Who Could Fly

g

Name : Lim Sui Ling

Class : K3B

No. Sekolah : 12124

Author : Victoria Forester

Main Character : Piper McCloud

Plot : The story begins when Betty McCloud got pregnant. Betty has celebrated no less than 25 years of barren marriage and was no longer considered a young woman. Millie Mae Miller spreads a rumor that Betty’s child is  a retard. The story is also about Piper McCloud, a girl who lives with her ma and pa in a normal farm in Lowland Country. Ever since Piper was a child, she has been able to float a few feet off the ground.   One day during a ball game, Piper embarrasses herself when she keeps missing the ball during the game while Millie Mae Miller keeps sneering at her. Piper then cheats angrily and flies in the air to catch the ball.  The next day, Piper’s home was beseigrd by reporters trying to get the latest scoop on ‘The Girl Who Could Fly’, and that sparks the interest of an evil scientist, Dr. Letitia Hellion . It seems best that Piper be sent away to I.N.S.A.N.E., a top secret school for children who have extraordinary abilities like hers. Piper’s new friends have amazing powers such as telekinesis, X-ray vision, super strength and the ability to create a rainbow. The school is meant to teach them how to control and use their powers, but after a period of time, Piper still isn’t allowed to use them. Conrad tricks Piper into flying to save herself from falling to her death, which causes her to be nearly expelled. Conrad keeps pestering Piper and Piper could not tolerate it any longer.  She fights with Conrad and they are both sent to Dr Hellion’s office. While on their way, Piper escapes to the incinerator and find out that the school is actually experimenting on animals and torturing them. After lights out, Conrad explains that the academy, called I.N.S.A.N.E, tries to make everything that walks through its doors normal. They have put a formula in the food, which is  tailored to deactivate the abilities in humans.  Conrad was only picking on Piper so she could wake up and fly. They want to escape at first, but decide to revolt. Piper and Dr.Hellion get into a fight and Dr Hellion uncovers her secret ability to fly.vIn the end, Dr.Hellion commits suicide.  Several months later, Conrad joins Piper’s family as he was abandoned by his. Piper’s family was more than happy to have him.

opinion :

The story soars, and there’s a plot twist to keep readers uncertain and excited about what will happen next.  I think it is particularly suitable for kids who think that they’re  misfits.  Those of them will take strength from Piper and fight to be who they truly are. Prepare to have your heart warmed. 🙂

Whisper

whispper

Name : Lim Jia Wen
Class : K3B
Book : Whisper
Author : Phoebe Kitandis

Summary : Joy is an ordinary high school student in almost every respect, except for her secret all the females in her family possess: the gift to “Hear” the thoughts and wishes of those around them. They refer to these unspoken thoughts as “Whispers.” She’s used to walking down the street and instantly knowing people’s deepest, darkest desires. She uses this talent for good, to make people happy and give them what they want. But for her older sister, Jessica, the family gift is a curse, and she uses it to make people’s lives, especially Joy’s, miserable. Still, when Joy Hears a frightening whisper from Jessica’s own mind, she knows she has to save her sister, even if it means deserting her friends, stealing a car and running away with a boy she barely knows, a boy who may have a dark secret of his own.

Opinion : Joy is a typical teenager, but with something extra – the ability to hear the mental ‘wishes’ of others. All her life she’s heard their best thoughts and hopes; now turning sixteen, she begins to hear their ugly wishes too.  I really enjoy this story and find the storyline to be both imaginative and engaging.

Summary: Claire is having the perfect sixteenth birthday party. Her pool party is a big success, and gorgeous Matthew keeps chatting and flirting with her as if she’s the only girl there. But that night, she discovers something that takes away all sense of normalcy: she’s a werewolf.

As Claire is initiated into the pack of female werewolves, she must deal not only with her changing identity, but also with a rogue werewolf who is putting everyone she knows in danger. Now burdened with a dark secret and pushing the boundaries of forbidden love, Claire is struggling to feel comfortable in either skin. With her lupine loyalty at odds with her human heart, she will make a choice that will change her forever.

Opinion : In CLAIRE DE LUNE, Christine Johnson introduces us to a different type of paranormal world, in which only females can be werewolves. It’s not a feminist book, but the dynamic that this sets up allows Claire to grow into a strong and self-reliant girl,a werewolf. Here, it’s the girl protecting the boy, not the usual way around. I want to introduce this book to everyone!
