Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

Name: Shelyn Ooi Shiyan

Class: S4A

School No. : 10062

Title :Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets

Author: JK Rowling

Publication year: 2002

Setting: Hogwarts School of Witchraft and Wizardy

Characters:

Voldemort

The greatest thing about Lord Voldemort (AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle) was that he was rotten to his very core. There would be no redemption for such a wicked spirit. There was never any “good” lying dormant underneath Voldemort’s dark exterior. He was never corrupted as a child; he was the corrupter. When other powerful sorcerers don’t even have the cajones to speak your name, then you know you’ve truly arrived as the ultimate master of malice.

Ron Weasley

– is Harry Potter’s best friend and ever-present sidekick. But unlike most sidekicks, Ron isn’t a coward or a simpleton, nor is he content to live in Harry’s shadow. Of the three friends that make up the main cast of characters, Ron is the comic relief — not an uncommon trait for sidekicks of his ilk — a characteristic that makes him instantly endearing. And while he lacks Harry’s natural magical talent, or Hermione’s smarts, Ron overcomes his shortcomings with faithfulness and perseverance.

Hermione Granger

Harry Potter and Ron Weasley’s best girl-pal, is so much more than just a token throw-in for female readers/viewers to identify with. In fact, she narrowly edges out Ron for second place on our list. Why? We’re glad you asked… Potter author J.K. Rowling describes her as “very logical, upright, and good.” And while she’s at first painted as a brainy do-gooder who always plays by the rules, it’s fun to watch Hermione develop into so much more over the course of the series.

Harry Potter

He’s a sympathetic figure; a kid plucked from unfortunate circumstances and thrust into a magical reality. He realizes he has been gifted with great power. And then he’s pitted against the ultimate evil in the wizarding world. Lord Voldemort, who years ago killed his mother and father . Everybody loves an underdog story of good vs. evil and we’ve watched Harry grow up in this fantastic setting — forming friendships, fighting foes, and finding love.

Summary:
Harry Potter is in his second year at Hogwarts. There is a mysterious voice that he keeps hearing in the walls of the school. The mysterious voice Harry keeps hearing is getting more and more menacing, and soon vicious attacks start happening on the students of Hogwarts. Harry discovers that someone is opening the “Chamber of Secrets” and letting out the monster. Events come to a head when Ron’s sister, Ginny, is kidnapped and taken down into the Chamber. They quickly head down into the Chamber of Secrets to rescue Ginny. Harry quickly finds Ginny. Voldemort was possessing Ginny through an enchanted diary and was using her to set the monster loose on the students. Harry saved her. Harry and Ron are both hailed as hero’s when they make it back out with Ginny.

Conclusion:

He lived happily ever after. Voldemort was defeated.

Opinion:

I love this book because it’s very interesting and special ! I’ve learnt about how important courage and love is in our lives.

Conflict

major conflict  · Harry attempts to stop Voldemort, who killed Harry’s parents, from stealing the Sorcerer’s Stone.

rising action  · Harry’s arrival at Hogwarts, the news of the break-in at Gringotts, and Hermione’s revelation of the trapdoor under the guard dog in the third-floor corridor bring Harry and Voldemort closer to confrontation.

climax  · Professor Snape’s apparent hex on Harry during the Quidditch game brings the simmering tension between good and evil out into the open, shifting Harry’s concern from winning the game to surviving.

falling action  · With the conflict out in the open, the forces of good and the forces of evil draw closer together: Harry, Ron, and Hermione explore the school and learn about the Sorcerer’s Stone; Voldemort drinks unicorn blood to sustain himself and attacks Harry in the Forbidden Forest; Harry faces Professor Quirrell and Voldemort, who orders Quirrell to kill Harry.

Conclusion

he pain that Harry feels at the end of Chapter 7 when Snape stares at him hints that there is some underlying tension between the two. Rowling exploits our misgivings about Snape by leading us to believe that he and Harry will eventually confront each other in a climactic battle for the Sorcerer’s Stone. It was a happy ever after as Harry was reunited with his friends and all was well.

Opinion

I love this book ever since small because it really enhances my imagination and makes me believe in ‘magic’. It is an extremely interesting and memorable story.
